Kansas Inmate Search

Looking for someone who is incarcerated in Kansas?

If Yes, then you have come to the right place.

I was in a similar position when my brother got arrested (read here). And I can understand how important it is to find information about your long lost loved one, friend or colleague.

Most of the websites you find online for inmate search do not provide accurate information or simply they would ask you to pay for the search.

But NOT Anymore!

I’m going to show you exactly how to search for an inmate in Kansas for free!

(Step-by-Step)

You might be wondering:

Why do you need to a guide to conduct the search? Can’t you simply search the inmate whereabouts?

Sadly NO, the way the prison system works in Kansas, there is no single database to conduct a statewide search. The person you are looking for can be in any of the 9 state prisons, 121 county jails or 196 police jails in the sate of Kansas.

And unfortunately, there is no single database to search through them at once.

There are few paid options available to conduct the search but why do you want to spend money, when you can search for free.

These 3 step guide is all you need to follow to search inmate information:

Below we have shared step-by-step instructions to conduct the search. For easier understanding refer to the flowchart:

Inmate Search Flowchart

Step 1 – Gather available information about the inmate

Gather all the available information about the person you are looking for. You would least be required to know the name of the person.

  1. First Name and Last Name (Required)
  2. Type of Correctional facility or Last known location (Optional but good to know as it can narrow the search criteria)
  3. Middle name, Age, Race, DOB, and Sex (Optional)
  4. Inmate ID number (Optional)
  5. Photo ID (Optional)

Searching for an inmate solely on the basis name can yield a lot of matching results. Using other information available such as DOB, age or sex can help you exactly pinpoint the person you are looking for.

Step 2 – Determine the Jail/Prison Type (Optional)

Depending on the type of crime, a person can be sentenced to any of the following prison/jail types:

  1. Federal Prison – houses inmates convicted for a federal crime and the sentence is generally for a longer duration (above 2 years)
  2. State Prison – houses inmates convicted for state crime and the sentence is usually above 1 year.
  3. County Jails – houses inmates serving a sentence of less than a year. Inmates awaiting trial, pending plea or pending transfer are also housed at the facility.
  4. Police Department Jail – Temporary holding facility till court hearing or transfer.

If you don’t know the type of correctional facility the inmate is in, proceed to the next step.

If you are aware of the correctional facility type, directly navigate to the corresponding search in the next step.

Still could not find the information about the inmate?

These can be possible reasons:

  1. The Inmate may not be incarcerated in Kansas. Try searching in other possible locations.
  2. Time to time prisoners gets transferred from one prison to another. For recently arrested inmates it can take upto 1 week for the information to be visible online. In such cases, it’s best to wait for a couple of days and try searching again.
Alternatively, you can hire a background research firm to find your loved one. We recommend Beenverified.
